from anxious to action.

Anxiety isn’t a physical disease that would heal by itself. It is just like a small baby who needs to be given attention, who needs to be taken care of. For time being, we might ignore it but, certainly, this shouldn’t be our game plan for the long run.

It should not be taken lightly. Anxiety is not just something one gets when they experience slight discomfort in new situations. Yes, to a point anxiety is normal for every human being and it’s ultimately there to protect you but for many, it’s a chemical imbalance, it’s not so much “having anxiety” as it is “living with anxiety.”

If you’re coping with anxiety I promise you it only takes a step to start a better path. Initiate. There’s nothing wrong with making that phone call, seeing that therapist, embracing your flaws, and learning to live with them, there’s nothing wrong with needing medication for a while, or maybe your entire life. Just take care of yourself. Take back control of life. If for anyone, do it for you. Just for you to know, there are various kinds of anxiety. There are different types of anxiety disorders, including phobias, panic and stress disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. YES, obsessive-compulsive disorder, unfortunately, and famously known, OCD.

It may seem very easy to recognize a person who suffers from above various kinds of anxieties but at the same time, it is difficult for someone to get out of it. So here, the question is, how do we help ourselves? Or even better, how can you be a help to someone else?

College can be stressful sometimes, plus not to forget the peer pressure (the yuckiest cherry on the cake) but how do we maintain the balance?

Allow me to take you through SMART:

5 Simple ways through which you could deal with your anxiety.

SLEEP (S): The human brain never sleeps, but you should. It allows you to take all the stress out peacefully and in a focused & synergized manner (yes you read it right). It is a necessary part of your day to day routine and without proper sleep, things ain't be going as per your plan.

MEDITATE (M): Anxiety is when we can’t regulate our emotions, and anxiety-inducing thoughts have a way of bouncing around our mind creating a major situation if we’re not aware of it. When we meditate, we assemble those thoughts, sit them down, observe them, talk to them, and let them go. And with that, we release the pent-up tension. With regular meditation, you would rationalize over time that these thoughts are illusory and they don’t define who you are.

ACCEPT (A): An effective way of dealing with anxiety is by accepting your anxious thoughts. Next time you feel overwhelmed with anxiety try distancing yourself from the anxiety by allowing yourself to just notice it. By noticing why you’re feeling what you’re feeling, and accepting your anxious thought as would an outsider, you’ll be reducing the power it has over you.

REASSURE (R): Reassure yourself that whatever you are doing or will be doing is right. Worrying about the end result even way before initiating the process is a futile waste of self-confidence. If you feel like taking a step that might even bring a good change in anyone’s life, reassure yourself to do it. Once you start, things shall eventually start placing themselves in their perfect positions.

TALK (T): Talking about your thoughts and feelings can help you deal with times when you feel troubled about something. If you turn a worry over and over in your mind, the worry can grow. But talking about it can help you work out what is really bothering you and explore what you could do about it. Talking is an important part of our relationships. It can strengthen your ties with other people and help you stay in good mental health. And being listened to helps you feel that other people care about you and what you have to say.

This is a new step, a new turn which your life has taken, college is one of the most memorable parts of our lives, it is completely okay to have thoughts like these, but you know what's not okay? To bear these thoughts. To not fight with them. To not let them know what the real you is. To give up on yourself.

Be SMART and make beautiful things happen in life.
